NEET PG 2026: Round 1 Result on 24 October. What to Do If You Get a Seat, and If You Don't

Published 23/10/2026

NEET PG 2026 Round 1 timeline: result 24 October, reporting 26 October to 2 November, Round 2 registration 6 to 11 November, Round 2 result 14 November

In short: Round 1 registration and choice locking for NEET PG 2026 all-India counselling closed on 21 and 22 October. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is due to publish the Round 1 seat allotment result on 24 October. Students with a seat must report to the college between 26 October and 2 November. Students without one, or who missed Round 1, can register for Round 2 from 6 to 11 November.

What happened

MCC's Round 1 for PG counselling 2026 (All India Quota, deemed and central universities, DNB) ran from 12 October. Registration closed at 12 noon on 21 October and choice locking ended at 10 am on 22 October. As of the morning of 23 October, MCC has not announced any extension or change to the schedule.

What comes next, as per the official schedule:

  • 24 October: Round 1 seat allotment result.
  • 26 October to 2 November: reporting at the allotted college.
  • 6 to 11 November: Round 2 registration and choice filling.
  • 14 November: Round 2 result.

State-quota counselling runs separately, through each state's own authority, on its own dates.

For students

If you are allotted a seat:

  1. Download the allotment letter from the MCC site as soon as the result is out. Read the college name, course and quota twice.
  2. Decide within a day or two, not on the last day. The reporting window is eight days, but colleges keep their own working hours, and a weekend or holiday can eat into it.
  3. Report with originals. The college verifies documents in person. A missing original can mean a refused admission, and the window does not wait.
  4. Happy with the seat? Choose "freeze" and join it. You keep the seat and are out of later rounds.
  5. Want to try for a better one? Choose "float", say yes to upgrade, and join Round 2. If Round 2 allots you a new seat, the Round 1 seat is cancelled automatically; you must then join the new one or lose the deposit. If Round 2 gives you nothing better, you keep the Round 1 seat.
  6. Not happy at all? Under MCC's bulletin, a student allotted a seat in Round 1 who does not join can leave without losing the security deposit ("free exit") and take part in Round 2 with the same registration.

If you are not allotted a seat, or you missed Round 1:

  1. Round 2 is open to you. Students who registered in Round 1 but got no seat carry on with the same registration; no second payment. Students who never registered can register fresh from 6 to 11 November, with full fees.
  2. Use the Round 1 result to read the market. MCC publishes the allotment list with ranks. Look at the closing ranks for the colleges and branches you listed; it tells you where to aim in Round 2.
  3. Widen your list. Students who list only a handful of colleges often end Round 1 with nothing. In Round 2, add every college you would actually join.

Allotted a seat in Round 1 but not sure about it? Free exit lets you leave and still join Round 2

For parents

  • The money stays the same. For All India Quota seats, the non-refundable fee is ₹1,000 and the refundable security deposit is ₹25,000 for UR/EWS students; for SC/ST/OBC/PwD students it is ₹500 and ₹10,000. For deemed universities it is ₹5,000 plus a ₹2,00,000 deposit for every category. A student applying for both pays only the higher deemed-university amount. A Round 1 registrant does not pay again for Round 2.
  • The deposit is safe in Round 1, not after. Free exit applies to Round 1 only. From Round 2 onwards, a student who is allotted a seat and does not join loses the deposit. That includes a student who upgrades from a Round 1 seat and then does not join the new one. So "float" is a real commitment, not a free look.
  • College fees come on top. The college collects its own tuition and hostel fees at reporting. Deemed universities, in particular, can ask for a large first instalment. Find out the amount before 26 October so the money is ready.
  • Originals for reporting. The bulletin lists: MCC allotment letter, NEET PG admit card and result, MBBS mark sheets for all professional years, MBBS degree or provisional certificate, internship completion certificate, medical registration, Class 10 or birth certificate, photo ID, and category or PwD certificates where they apply. Gather them this week; the window is short.
