CLAT 2027 Forms Close on 31 October. Eight Days Left for the Law Entrance

Published 23/10/2026

Last call: CLAT 2027 forms close on 31 October 2026 at 11:59 pm. The exam is on 6 December.

In short: The application window for CLAT 2027 closes at 11:59 pm on Saturday, 31 October 2026. CLAT is the common entrance for the five-year integrated law degrees at the National Law Universities (NLUs). If your child is in Class 12 and even half-considering law, the form has to go in this week. There is no sign of an extension so far.

What happened

The Consortium of National Law Universities, which runs CLAT, opened applications on 3 August 2026. Its official CLAT 2027 page and press release give 31 October 2026, 11:59 pm as the last moment to submit the form and pay the fee. The undergraduate exam is on Sunday, 6 December 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, as a pen-and-paper test at centres. Candidates with a disability (PwD) get time until 4:40 pm.

Nothing has changed in these dates. We are writing now because the deadline is eight days away, and once the window shuts there is no second chance at CLAT this year.

Who can apply?

  • Marks: 45% (or the equivalent grade) in Class 12 for most candidates, and 40% for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
  • This year's Class 12 students: Yes. Students writing their board exams in March or April 2027 can apply now. They must show their pass result at the time of admission.
  • Age: There is no upper age limit for the undergraduate programme.
  • Stream: The eligibility page asks only for a pass in Class 12 or its equivalent with the marks above. It does not name a required stream.

For students

Before you pay for CLAT 2027: check 45% (40% for SC, ST, PwD) in Class 12, keep photo, signature and category certificate as PDFs, fee is Rs 4,000 or Rs 3,500 and not refundable, submit only once

  1. Decide by the weekend, not on the 31st. Sites slow down near the closing hour. Aim to finish by 29 October.
  2. Get the files ready first. You will upload a passport-size photo, your signature and, if it applies, a category, PwD or BPL certificate. They must be PDFs.
  3. Submit once. If you send more than one form, only the last one counts, and the fee for the earlier one is not returned.
  4. Pick centres you can reach. The Consortium can cancel a centre and move candidates to another city, so keep the admit card and any notices in view later.
  5. Use the six weeks well. CLAT is a reading-heavy paper. Daily practice with long passages, under a timer, helps more than collecting new books.

For parents

  • The fee: ₹4,000 for General and OBC candidates, and ₹3,500 for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates. It is paid only online, the bank's transaction charges are extra, and it is not refundable.
  • Is it worth applying if you are unsure? For many families, yes. Applying keeps the option open; the decision to attend can come after the results. ₹4,000 is a real cost, so talk it through, but missing the form closes the door for this year.
  • Boards come first. The exam is on 6 December, well before the board exams. A steady plan that does not eat into board revision is safer than a last-minute rush.
  • NRI seats work differently. The Consortium does not allot NRI or NRI-sponsored seats. If that is your route, check each NLU's own website.
  • Keep originals safe. Admission needs the original certificates and the Class 12 result, handed to the university that offers the seat.
