Colleges in Bengaluru for BBA, BCA and Commerce

Facts checked 16/10/2026

Bengaluru has a lot of colleges for BBA, BCA and B.Com, and many families feel lost in the brochures. This is not a "best colleges" list. It explains how admission works here, shows official data for some well-known names, and tells you how to check any college yourself.

How admission works in Bengaluru

There is no single city-wide entrance test for these courses. Each college runs its own process.

  • Deemed and private universities (for example Christ, Jain, Kristu Jayanti, PES) set their own rules. Most use their own entrance test, an interview, or both.
  • Autonomous colleges (for example St Joseph's College of Commerce, Mount Carmel, Jyoti Nivas) design their own syllabus and admissions, but the degree is given by the university they are affiliated to. In Bengaluru that is often Bengaluru City University.
  • Affiliated colleges follow the university's syllabus and usually admit on Class 12 marks.

Applications at many colleges open well before Class 12 board results. For example, St Joseph's College of Commerce lists 6 December 2026 as its first-phase application deadline. So start looking in Class 12, not after results.

A note on three-year vs four-year degrees. Karnataka moved away from the four-year NEP degree and went back to a three-year degree for state universities. In August 2026, Deccan Herald reported that the full State Education Policy has not been put in place yet and that colleges are applying the rules unevenly. Deemed and private universities may follow their own structure. Before you pay, ask the college in writing: is this a three-year or four-year degree, and what do I get if I leave after three years?

Some well-known colleges, with official data

NAAC grades come from each college's own website. NIRF ranks come from nirfindia.org. "Not listed" means we did not find the college in NIRF 2025. It may not have taken part.

How to check a college before paying

  1. Check the UGC fake universities list. UGC publishes it on ugc.gov.in. Any "university" on it cannot give a valid degree.
  2. Check NAAC yourself. Look at the grade, the cycle and the date. A grade from many years ago may have expired.
  3. Check NIRF yourself. Some college websites quote ranks loosely. Search the college on nirfindia.org for the year it claims.
  4. Read the placement numbers in the NIRF data file. Each ranked college uploads a file on the NIRF site. It shows how many students graduated, how many were placed and the median salary. This is more reliable than a brochure.
  5. Know your refund rights. In July 2026 it was reported that UGC told colleges to refund the full fee to a student who withdraws by 30 September 2026, and to keep at most ₹1,000 for withdrawals in October. Ask the college for its refund policy in writing for your year.
  6. Visit the campus. Talk to current students, not only the admissions office. Ask about class size, attendance rules and internships.
