NEET-SS 2026: apply by 18 November, exam on 11 and 12 December, result by 12 January 2027

In short: Applications for NEET-SS 2026, the single entrance test for DM, MCh and DrNB super speciality courses, opened on 29 October. The official bulletin says the form closes on 18 November at 11:55 pm, and the exam is on 11 and 12 December. This matters to every MD, MS or DNB doctor aiming for a super speciality seat this year, and to the families helping them plan.

What happened

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has put the NEET-SS 2026 information bulletin and the application link on its website. NEET-SS is the only valid entrance for DM/MCh courses across the country, including private and deemed universities, and for DrNB super speciality courses. A few institutes run their own admissions and are not covered: AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER, NIMHANS and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute, Thiruvananthapuram.

One thing to note: some news reports have given 11 November as the last date. The bulletin on the NBEMS website, which we checked on 30 October, says 18 November. Go by the bulletin, and recheck it before you submit.

Who can apply: doctors who hold a recognised MD, MS or DNB (or an equivalent) in a feeder speciality, or who will have it by 31 January 2027. The bulletin's Annexure A lists which postgraduate degree feeds which super speciality.

How the exam works

  • Computer-based, in morning or afternoon shifts on 11 and 12 December.
  • 15 question paper groups. Your MD/MS/DNB subject decides which group or groups you can take. If you are eligible for more than one, you can take more than one, paying for each.
  • 150 questions in 150 minutes, split into three timed sections of 50 questions and 50 minutes each. Once a section's time is up, you cannot go back to it.
  • Marking: 4 marks for a correct answer, minus 1 for a wrong one, nothing for a question left blank.
  • To qualify, you need to be at the 50th percentile or above in your group.
  • Result by 12 January 2027. Counselling is run separately by the designated counselling authority, not by NBEMS.

For students (the doctors applying)

  1. Find your group first. Open Annexure A of the bulletin and match your degree to the groups you are eligible for. Choosing a group decides which super speciality seats you can pick in counselling.
  2. Don't leave it to the last week. Pay early. If a payment fails, you can only pay again while the application window is open.
  3. Get the photo, signature and thumb impression right the first time. There is one short window, 28 November to 2 December, to fix faulty images. The bulletin says no further chance will be given.
  4. Use the edit window wisely. From 20 to 23 November you can change most details, but not your name, nationality, email, Aadhaar, mobile number or test city.
  5. Practise the timed-section format. Not being able to return to a section changes how you pace yourself. Practise it before December.

The money. The fee is ₹3,500 per group, plus any payment gateway charges. GST does not apply. Two groups cost ₹7,000, three cost ₹10,500. The bulletin is clear that the fee is not refunded or carried forward. If a candidate is found ineligible, the fee is lost.

The paperwork. If your son or daughter is still finishing their MD/MS/DNB, make sure the degree or provisional pass certificate will be in hand by 31 January 2027. Eligibility at this stage is only provisional, so a candidate found ineligible later can have the result or candidature cancelled.
