- Postings and transfers can take you far from home, including to remote districts
- Much of the work is desk work, with reports, files and meetings
- Class 11–12 subjects
- No fixed Class 12 subjects. Any stream (science, commerce or arts) can lead here. For the general post you need a degree in any subject. Economics, English and basic Maths help a lot in the exam. What the work is like
Helping banks, cooperatives and farmer groups get money for farming, irrigation, rural roads and small businesses. Studying how rural schemes are working. Writing notes and reports. Inspecting or supervising rural banks. Visiting districts and villages. Some officers work in legal, IT, finance or economics roles.
A day in the work
You reach the office in the morning and read a loan proposal from a state cooperative bank or a note on a village water project. Then you sit in a meeting with your team to discuss whether the money is reaching farmers on time. After lunch you write a short report or check numbers from a district. Some weeks you travel to a district to meet bank staff, farmer groups or self-help groups and see how a scheme is working on the ground.
The path, step by step
- Step 1 · Class 11–12Choose any stream you like. Build your English reading and writing. Pick up basic economics and Maths. Read about farming, villages and how banks lend money.
- Step 2 · Graduation (3–4 years)Finish a degree with good marks. The 2025 advertisement asked for 60% in aggregate for general candidates (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). You must have your final result declared by the cut-off date in the notice. Specialist posts need CA, CS, law, engineering, IT, finance or economics qualifications.
- Step 3 · Phase I – PrelimsAn online objective test. The last one was held on 20 December 2025. The 2025 pattern was reported as English, computer knowledge, quantitative aptitude, decision making and general awareness, 200 marks in all. It only decides who goes to Mains. (reported — check with the official body)
- Step 4 · Phase II – MainsThe last Mains was on 25 January 2026. For general candidates, one paper is English (descriptive). The other covers Economic and Social Issues and Agriculture and Rural Development, in objective and descriptive form.
- Step 5 · Psychometric test and interviewThe psychometric test is compulsory. Only candidates who clear the Mains cut-offs and take the psychometric test are shortlisted for interview. Final rank is based on Mains and interview marks together. The interview was reported as 50 marks. (reported — check with the official body)
- Step 6 · Documents, medical, joining, training and probationSelected candidates go through document checks and joining formalities, then training and a probation period. Details of the medical, training length and probation are in the joining instructions. We could not confirm them from an official page. (reported — check with the official body)

What people earn
Assistant Manager, Grade A: starting basic ₹44,500 a month in the scale ₹44,500–2,500 (4)–54,500–2,850 (7)–74,450–EB–2,850 (4)–85,850–3,300 (1)–89,150, plus allowances such as DA, HRA and others (reported from the 2025 advertisement; please check the emoluments section of the notice).

Myth and fact
For girls and students with disabilities
SC/ST/PwBD candidates need lower minimum marks in the qualifying degree (55% instead of 60% for the general post), and may get relaxation in age and fee. The 2025 advertisement reserved posts for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates, but the Protocol & Security post had no age relaxation.
