NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Moved: New Seats Added, Counselling Now From 7 November. What Students and Parents Should Do
Published 04/11/2026

In short: Round 2 of NEET PG 2026 all-India counselling will not open on 6 November as planned. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) says new seats approved by NMC arrived on 3 November, so Round 2 will run from 7 November onwards. Exact dates are not out yet. More seats is good news. The catch: from this round there is no free exit, so a seat you are allotted and don't join costs you the deposit.
What happened
MCC's original schedule had Round 2 registration running from 6 to 11 November, with the result on 14 November. On its PG counselling page, updated on 3 November, MCC has now said three things:
- NMC sent the seat matrix for newly approved seats for Round 2 on 3 November.
- Colleges will verify these seats, after applying the reservation roster, till 6 November.
- So the Round 2 schedule will be rescheduled from 7 November onwards.
MCC has not yet posted the new Round 2 dates. As of 4 November, its schedule document still shows the old dates. Treat those as replaced. Round 3 and the stray round (earlier set for late November and December) may also shift, so wait for MCC's revised schedule before planning around them.
We covered Round 1 on 23 October. The new development: Round 2 has moved, and it will include seats that were not on offer in Round 1.
For students
Who can take part in Round 2. MCC's information bulletin sets this out:
- Registered in Round 1 but got no seat: no need to register or pay again. You must fill and lock a fresh list of choices. Round 1 choices don't carry over.
- Never registered: you can register when Round 2 opens, with the full fee and deposit.
- Took free exit in Round 1: log back in with your earlier registration.
- Joined a Round 1 seat and chose "upgrade": you stay in the running. If Round 2 gives you a new seat, the Round 1 seat is cancelled at once. You take online relieving and must join the new one.
- Joined a Round 1 seat without choosing upgrade: the bulletin says you are not eligible for an upgrade in Round 2.
What to do now:
- Check mcc.nic.in every day. Registration may open at short notice once the dates are announced, and the window could be short.
- Study the new seats. When MCC publishes the updated Round 2 seat list, look for colleges and branches that weren't there in Round 1.
- List only seats you would actually join. If Round 2 allots one and you walk away, the deposit is lost.
Use these days well
- 1Check mcc.nic.in every day for the new dates
- 2Look at the updated seat list when it is out
- 3Agree your choice list as a family
- 4Keep the deposit and college fee ready
For parents
- The deposit is at risk from this round. For All India Quota seats, the refundable security deposit is ₹25,000 for UR/EWS students and ₹10,000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD students, on top of a non-refundable fee of ₹1,000 or ₹500. For deemed universities it is ₹5,000 plus a ₹2,00,000 deposit for every category. Under MCC's bulletin, a student who is allotted a seat in Round 2 or later and does not join loses that deposit.
- Round 3 is final. A Round 2 seat can still be upgraded in Round 3. A Round 3 seat cannot be resigned or upgraded once joined. Not joining one means losing the deposit and being dropped from later rounds.
- Use the extra days. Sit down together and agree which seats your family would accept, given the fee, the city and the branch. Then choice filling is quick when it opens.
- Keep money ready. Tuition and hostel fees are paid to the college at reporting, separate from MCC's deposit. Deemed universities can ask for a large first instalment.
- One note. The bulletin on MCC's site is marked as a draft, and no newer version has been posted. Check the site again before paying.
Round 1 vs Round 2
- Free exit allowed
- Deposit safe if you walked away
- No free exit
- Allotted but not joined: deposit lost
- Fresh choices needed
