This week in admissions, exams and study abroad – 26 October to 1 November 2026
Published 01/11/2026

In short: Two deadlines were pushed back this week, which gives some families breathing room. Abroad, four countries changed or proposed visa rules, and most of the news is about money and paperwork. Here is the week in one place, and the dates that matter until 15 November.
India this week
- UGC NET December 2026 got three extra days. NTA moved the last date from 28 to 31 October, with no late fee. The correction window is 2 to 4 November, and the exam is on 14 to 18 and 21 December. Details.
- CSIR NET closes on Thursday, 5 November at 11:50 pm. A late window with ₹500 extra runs from 6 to 9 November. The exam is on 19, 22 and 27 December. Details.
- NEET-SS forms opened on 29 October. Doctors with an MD, MS or DNB can apply for super speciality seats until 18 November, 11:55 pm. The exam is on 11 and 12 December. Details.
- The NMMSS scholarship deadline moved to 15 November. This ₹12,000-a-year scholarship is for government and aided school students in Class 9 to 12. Schools must verify forms by 30 November. Details.
- Two board windows closed. CBSE private candidate forms for 2027 closed on 30 October (with a ₹2,000 late fee in the last week), and UP Board objections to the proposed exam centre list closed on 28 October. UP districts are due to send approved centre lists by 6 November. CBSE · UP Board.
Study abroad this week
- UK: a mixed message on the Graduate visa. Graduates who apply on or after 1 January 2027 get 18 months instead of two years. Then the 28 October Budget promised two years for graduates of "high-compliance" universities and opened the High Potential Individual visa to the world's top 150 institutions. The rules, the list and the start date are not out yet. 18-month rule · Budget plans.
- Canada: fines for dishonest or unauthorised agents. From 28 October, IRCC can fine people who charge for immigration advice without authorisation, and paid representatives who knowingly put false information in an application. What to check.
- Australia: tougher money checks proposed. Home Affairs wants views on changes to the Genuine Student test and the rules for proving funds. Nothing is decided; feedback closes on 23 November. Details.
- New Zealand: four student visa changes took effect on 27 October, covering work hours, English evidence and the time students may stay after their course. Details.
- US: early applications closed on 1 November at universities such as Harvard (Restrictive Early Action) and Penn (binding Early Decision). Decisions come in December. ED or EA?

For students this week
- CSIR NET first. If you are applying, finish by Wednesday night rather than Thursday. Portals slow down on the last day.
- Use the UGC NET correction window carefully. Check your category, subject and exam city between 2 and 4 November. Fix only what is wrong.
- Don't leave NIFT, NEET-SS or JEE Main to the last week. All three close within a fortnight of each other.
- In the UK on a degree now? Two years is still on offer if you apply for the Graduate visa by 31 December 2026. Don't plan around the Budget promise until the rules are published.
Five things to do now
- 1CSIR NET form by 5 Nov
- 2Start NEET-SS and NIFT forms
- 3NMMSS scholarship by 15 Nov
- 4UK graduates: apply by 31 Dec
- 5Check any Canada visa agent
For parents this week
- Scholarship money is on the table. If your child is in a government or aided school and holds an NMMSS award, make sure the renewal is done before 15 November, and ask the school to verify it on time.
- Check any agent before you pay. Canada's new fines are a reminder: ask for the agent's licence number and check it on the official register. A real agent will not promise a visa.
- Plan abroad money early. Australia may ask for stronger proof of funds, and the UK's rules are shifting. Keep bank statements, loan letters and income proof in order now, not in the month before the visa.
- Pay only on official sites. Every link in the table above goes to the official page. Keep receipts and confirmation pages.
