CBSE Class 10 and 12 Board Exam 2027: Last Chance to Fix Name, Date of Birth or Subjects Is 7 November
Published 03/11/2026

In short: If your child is writing the CBSE Class 10 or Class 12 board exam in 2027, their name, date of birth, parents' names and subjects can still be corrected, but only until Saturday, 7 November 2026. The school makes the change, and CBSE says there will be no other chance after this week.
What happened
On 2 November 2026, CBSE's Controller of Examinations wrote to the principals of all affiliated schools about the List of Candidates (LOC). This is the list each school sends to the Board with the details of every student who will sit the Class 10 or Class 12 exam. Those details are what later appear on the admit card, the marksheet and the passing certificate.
The list for 2026–27 has already been submitted. Schools now print a data verification slip for each student so the details can be checked. The circular says:
- Schools can correct a student's name, mother's, father's or guardian's name, date of birth and subjects from Monday, 2 November to Saturday, 7 November 2026. (The circular prints the end date as "07.11.2025", but the day it gives, Saturday, matches 7 November 2026.)
- No correction will be made after that for Class 10 or Class 12, and no other opportunity will be given.
- Schools must share the circular with students and parents and send any corrections strictly within these dates.
The circular also puts the responsibility plainly: it says parents are responsible for making sure their child's data in the list is correct.
Are you checking the right things?
CBSE has listed exactly what it wants parents to look at. Most of it takes five minutes with the verification slip and your child's documents in front of you.
What CBSE asks parents to check
- 1Full name, not a short name
- 2Surname included (needed abroad)
- 3Date of birth
- 4Mother's and father's names
- 5Matches the passport, if your child has one
- 6Subjects for Class 10 or 12
- The full name, not a short name. "Priya R." or "P. Sharma" may be how friends know your child, but documents in later life usually need the name in full.
- The surname. The circular specifically says to include it if your child may study abroad, because several countries need it. A missing surname is a common reason for mismatches between a marksheet and a passport.
- Date of birth. Check every digit against the birth certificate.
- Mother's and father's names. Spelling matters here too.
- The passport. If your child already has one, CBSE asks that the details match it.
- Subjects. For both Class 10 and Class 12, the Board says no subject change will be accepted after this window.
For students
- Ask your class teacher for your verification slip today. The window is only six days, and the school has to process every student's changes before Saturday.
- Read it line by line with a parent. Do not skim. One wrong letter carries onto the marksheet you will use for college applications, entrance exams and scholarships.
- Check your subjects carefully, especially optional and skill subjects. If what you study in class does not match the list, raise it now.
- Report any mistake in writing. A short note with your name, class, roll number, what is wrong and what it should be is easiest for the office to act on. Keep a photo of the note.
For parents
Can we make the correction ourselves?
No. The school submits it to CBSE between 2 and 7 November. Tell the school in writing, early in the week.
Why it matters so much. The Class 10 certificate is often used as proof of date of birth for years: for college admission, government jobs, passports and visas. Correcting it after results is a much longer process than fixing it this week.
Keep documents handy. You may be asked for proof of the correct details, such as the birth certificate, Aadhaar or passport. The circular does not list documents, so ask the school what it needs.
Thinking of study abroad later? Make sure the name on the board record matches the passport exactly, surname included. Universities and visa officers abroad compare these documents, and differences can cause delays.
No fee is mentioned. The circular does not mention any charge for corrections. The route is only through your child's school.
