Made a Mistake in Your JEE Main 2027 Form? NTA Now Allows a Fresh Form Until 22 November
Published 02/11/2026

In short: On 30 October, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said JEE Main 2027 Session 1 candidates who made a mistake in their form may fill a completely fresh form by 22 November 2026 (or by 26 November with a late fee), but the fee already paid will not be refunded or carried over. For students who only need a small change, NTA points to the correction window on 27 to 29 November.
What happened
When the Session 1 form opened on 24 October, NTA's notice said each candidate should submit only one application. Since then, NTA says it has received complaints from candidates who made errors while filling the form. Its clarification of 30 October changes the picture:
- A candidate may submit a fresh application even after getting an application number or paying the fee.
- The fresh form gets a new application number. All details must be entered again, and the photo, signature and documents uploaded again.
- The fee paid on the earlier form is neither refunded nor adjusted. The full fee has to be paid on the new form.
- Only the last form for which the fee was paid and a confirmation page was generated counts. If a fresh form is started but not paid, the earlier completed form stays valid.
- A student can still write the exam only once per session. Appearing, or trying to appear, on more than one application number is treated as unfair means. Simply holding two numbers is not.
Two days earlier, on 28 October, NTA also issued an advisory. Candidates should log in with their own DigiLocker, JanParichay or e-Pramaan account, complete Re-KYC on DigiLocker first so the latest details are pulled in, and make sure the name and date of birth match the Class 10 certificate or marksheet exactly.
Fresh form or correction window?
Fresh form or correction window
- By 22 Nov (late fee to 26 Nov)
- New application number
- Full fee again, no refund
- Re-upload photo and documents
- 27 to 29 Nov only
- Same application number
- For minor changes
- Edits the form you already paid for
This is the decision most families face. NTA's own guidance is simple: if you only need minor changes, use the correction facility instead of starting again. A fresh form makes sense when the problem is serious enough that you would rather start clean, for example if the form was filled through someone else's login, or the identity details are wrong throughout. NTA's notice does not list which fields can be changed in the correction window, so check the window's instructions when it opens.
For students
- Open your confirmation page and read every line. Name, date of birth, category, Class 12 details, papers chosen and exam cities.
- Match your name and date of birth against your Class 10 certificate. These must be the same, letter for letter. This is the one mistake NTA has gone out of its way to warn about.
- Small error? Note it down and wait for 27 to 29 November. Set a reminder. The window is only three days.
- Serious error? Decide early, not on 22 November. If you choose a fresh form, fill it calmly, upload everything again and pay before the deadline.
- Keep only one form in your head. After a fresh form, use the new application number for everything. Never try to use two numbers on exam day.
For parents
The money. A fresh form means paying the full fee a second time, with no refund of the first. It is worth sitting with your child for ten minutes and checking whether the problem can wait for the correction window instead. The fee table is in our earlier article on JEE Main 2027 Session 1.
The ID check. NTA wants the login and identity details to belong to the candidate. If a parent's or a cyber café's account was used, that is exactly the kind of case a fresh form is meant for.
The paperwork. Save the confirmation page and payment receipt of the form that counts, and mark it clearly. If there are two forms, keep both receipts, but make sure your child knows which application number is the live one.
